Product Restrictions

In some cases, you'll need to allow users to see only certain items, or to make items available only to certain customers. The WebAlliance Product Restrictions feature makes setting up those rules easy.  From the Admin panel, select Site Manager>Product Restrictions to create, edit or delete Product Restrictions.

You must be a SuperAdmin or an Admin with the Settings Area role to access this feature.

Viewing the Product Restriction List

Each record represents a distinct product restriction rule. Click "Add New Restriction" to enter a new record, or "View Details" to edit an existing record.

Creating a New Record

Creating a New Record

To create a new record, give the new rule a name and description. Then choose if it's a Territory Sales restriction (items can be sold only to certain customers), or a Catalog Sales restriction (customers can view and purchase only from a given set of items).

Then, choose which customers you're dealing with through the Customer Groups section. See below for information on how to create a new group. To select an existing group, click "Add" on the appropriate group name.

Next, choose the items that will be restricted. The groups here are tagged in your ERP system if you use Attribute Manager and in your PIM if you have it. Let Aldrich Solutions know which of the following fields you'll use to tag your item groups: Class ID1-5, User Defined Fields (Field1 - 5), Default Product Group, or PIM.

  • Enter your item tag in (for example) Field1 under Item Maintenance. Be consistent in spelling, casing, etc. We'll use "Drills" for this example.
  • The values will update on the Product Restrictions screen along with your scheduled data update, or after a PIM publish.
  • Once the value "Drills" appears on this screen, click "Add" to apply that group of items to the restriction. Hover your mouse over the group before selecting it to see a list of Item Codes included in the group.

NOTE: You can use more than one customer group and more than one item group per restriction rule.

To lock down a customer to a given catalog, and not show that catalog to anyone else, make 2 restrictions - one of each type.

Creating or Modifying a User Group

While you can edit the user group through the Product Restrictions interface, the better option is to go to Users >User Groups separately. View our User Groups manual entry for instructions.
