Integrating Third-Party Scripts (Tracking Code) with your Website Header
You can use Google Tag Manager to report site activity to third parties such as MailChimp, SalesForce, Facebook Pixel, Bing AdWords, among others. If you would rather implement these services within your website, the instructions below will walk you through the steps necessary to do so.
This method involves using the Design Manager, which is a tool intended for use by advanced users. Design Manager has the potential to make changes which can cause your WebAlliance site to lose functionality or load improperly. Please use with caution. If there is a change you would like made, but do not feel comfortable making it yourself, please contact Aldrich Web Solutions via our Customer Portal and we can advise you further.
Obtain the Script from the Third-Party Service
This page will act as a brief guide for integrating third-party services into your WebAlliance website. As an example, we'll use a verification script from Google Search Console:
<meta name="google-site-verification" content="3sWm0Xk7YMwnhO1XNXzV7dh2oPm-fdG89_XXXXXX" />
If you're specifically working with Google services, Aldrich Web Solutions recommends visiting Google's support website to find Google Search Console's HTML Tag verification instructions.
Add the Script to the Design Manager
Select "Shared" then "Custom Header Scripts" and paste the script into the editor. The "Custom Header Scripts" content will be loaded on each page of your website inside the <head></head> tag.
After you've pasted the entire script into the editor, click "Publish" and then enter your initials and a note describing the change you made. This will apply your changes to the website.
Once you have acquired the script from the third-party service, navigate to the Design Manager tool. The Design Manager is found under the "Content" menu on your website's Admin panel.
It is imperative that whenever changes are made inside the Design Manager tool, the user who makes the changes ensures that they briefly describe what changes were made, and where they were made. This will greatly increase the ease of troubleshooting in the future, should the change cause unforeseen issues.
In our above example, Google Search Console will periodically scan the website for the new script. The verification should be completed within a few minutes.
If the script needs to go inside the <footer></footer> tag, use the Template called "Custom Footer Scripts." If the script needs to go inside the <body></body> tag, contact Aldrich Web Solutions for assistance.
