File Manager
The File Manager feature allows you to upload files you would like to utilize on your website, such as images, PDF files, or text documents.
Note: The File Manager is suggested for experienced users. Modifying the folder structure, or deleting or renaming users within the File Manager WILL BREAK YOUR SITE.
You must be a SuperAdmin or an Admin with the Content Area role to access this feature.
Using the File Manager
To get to File Manager, follow this example from the Admin.
Content > File Manager
This is the overview screen of the File Manager. It's the best place to see high-level information about the files that are hosted on your WebAlliance account. Note that this is not the tool to use for dealing with your item images. To manage those files, use the Raw_Images directory on your gateway server.
- The two side boxes of the File Manager interface shows the status of your WebAlliance hosting account. If your site has exceeded the limit on number of files or total file size, the associated number will turn red. Should that happen, contact Aldrich Web Solutions for assistance.
- Click one of these buttons to switch between grid and list view. This determines how the files and folders in File Manager will be displayed. Examples of Grid View and List View are shown above.
- Use this menu to sort your files by Name, Type, or File Size.
- Click "Add Folder" to add a new folder to the currently shown directory. Click "Add File(s)" to upload a file (see below)
- Navigate the File Manager directories, or Drag-and-Drop files to upload them to the visible directory.
Working on cleaning up your File Manager directories? You can hold CTRL on your keyboard while you click to select several files at once, then remove those selected files.
Uploading Files to the File Manager
In most cases, such as in creating a page or using the Home Page Editor, you'll be able to upload your desired file(s) directly from the editor. However, the File Manager allows you to upload files as well. Just be sure to pay attention to the folder structure, as it's important to add your files to the correct location.
Click "Add Folder" to create a new directory.
Click "Add File(s)" to upload a file. When you do so, you'll be given a system dialog that allows you to select a local file to upload to the currently visible location in File Manager. You can also Drag-and-Drop a file onto the File Manager interface to upload it.
Note: If uploading product documents (like MSDS or instruction manuals), use the path "/docs/SKUdocs". We recommend using FTP for this, rather than the File Manager. Ask Aldrich Solutions for details.
For more information about product documents, see "Document Linking and Uploading".
File Manager is not compatible with .jpeg file types.
