Home Page Editor

This page allows you to edit the individual modules contained on your site's home page. These can vary, but this article will cover the most popular modules. This can be found at Content > Home Page Editor

You must be a SuperAdmin or an Admin with the Content Area role to access this feature.

Home Page Editor Layout Mode Optional Module

The Home Page Editor Layout Mode tool is an optional module.  This mode allows you to edit the order of the home page elements, choose which home page elements display, and add new elements.  If you would like to have access to the layout mode, feel free to contact us.

Select Layout Mode from the "Edit Mode" area at the top of the Home Page Editor.

Add elements to the page from the Blocks section.

When an element is selected, use the tool bar to move it up or down the page, delete it, or edit the basic format (height, width, background color, etc.)

Leave Layout Mode to edit the content of the element.

Content Mode

Use the WebAlliance Home Page Editor's Content Mode to update the images, text, and links set in each element of your website's home page.

Select the Section to Edit

Clicking the Home Page Editor link will take you to an edit layout for your home page.

  1. Show or hide the home page editor overlay so you can see and tweak the changes you've made.
  2. Click Edit Meta to edit the Page Title and the Meta Description for the home page.
  3. Click the 'x' in the corner to exit the Home Page Editor.
  4. View an unpublished version of the Home Page to see a preview of what all changes will look like.
  5. Sections with the red lock can't be edited in the Home Page Editor.
  6. Clicking on a section with a pencil icon will take you to the editor for that portion of the home page.

WebAlliance comes with the ability to add a Title and Alt Tag to each image within a section of the Home Page. This allows you to have SEO capabilities on your Home Page. For more information about these Tags, see the helpful article here.

Edit Slideshow Content and Settings

Edit the main slideshow element on the home page.

  1. Add a new slide to the home page slideshow.
  2. Select the image you want to display for the given slide.
  3. Define a link for the image.
  4. Check the "Open in new tab" checkbox to open the link in a new browser tab, or leave the box unchecked to open the link in the same window.
  5. Choose whether to set a schedule for the slider image. You can set the image to automatically start or stop showing up outside of a given date range.
  6. Choose the target audience for your slider image. See our "Can you explain Targeted Users?" article to see details about the "Target Users" options.

In some cases, when editing previously configured Image Slides on the Homepage, the "Settings" tab will not be available. If you experience this and would like to edit the settings of an existing set of slides, please contact Aldrich Solutions.

There are a handful of options you can use to affect the display of your slideshow.

Slider Speed: Sets how many milliseconds happen between slide transitions.

Autoplay: Determines if the sliders will automatically cycle without any user input.
Dots: Determines if the sliders will contain a series of dots that allow the user to skip between images.

Arrows: Determines if there will be arrows to navigate left and right on slides.

Fade: If enabled, slides will fade into the next slide to transition versus sliding horizontally.

Randomize: When enabled the slides are presented in random order.

You must make at least one slide visible to all website users.

Also, you must select the "Is Placeholder" checkbox on at least one slide.  That slide will be shown as a default slide while the system determines which slides a particular user can see.  In most cases, the placeholder slide will never be seen, but it's required to ensure a good user experience for users with slow internet connections.

Edit Targeted Content(DEPRECATED)

This is an area where you can create and target content to specific types of users.  See our Targeted Content article for all of the details on how it works.

What if I see "Image must be exactly..." error message, and I can't upload my image?

- The Home Page Editor requires newly uploaded images to meet proper dimensions for your website. If your image doesn't meet those criteria, you can update the image's size in a photo editor like Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator, or using an online tool like https://www.photoresizer.com.

That requirement helps you make sure your website's home page loads quickly and looks its best.

Edit Top Categories

This section generally consists of 4 -5 definable images and text labels on the home page. You can use them to highlight categories, content pages, items, etc.

  1. Select the image. This list auto-populates with items from the folder \customer\images\HomePage\categories.
  2. Define a link for the image. Remember to use relative links if directing toward another page within your website. These links are pre-set to open in the same window.
  3. Define a Title for the image.
  4. You can target a category to a specific type of user.   See our "Can you explain Targeted Users?" article to see details about the "Targeted Content" options.

Edit Brand

This module consists of several "featured brand" logos, in a slider or in columns, on the home page:

  1. Select the image. This list auto-populates from the folder /customer/images/HomePage/brands.
  2. Define a link for the image. If this is an external (outside of your website) link, you must format it like: "http://www.example.com".
  3. You can target an item to a specific type of user.   See our "Can you explain Targeted Users?" article to see details about the "Target Content" options.

Edit Categories

The "Categories" area can allow you to display information related to categories created in Attribute Manager.

  1. Choose which categories to display.
  2. Set your category and subcategory display options.
  3. Choose which types of users should see your category tree.

This category display does NOT take Product Restrictions into account. If your website uses Product Restrictions heavily, this display is probably not a good fit for your website.

Edit Top or Bottom Text

This is a block of text on the home page, which allows you to set search-engine (and reader) friendly text.

  1. Set the Title.
  2. Set the body text.

Edit Title/Meta

These fields set values for fields that search engines find valuable. The title displays on the browser tab, and the Meta Description won't display on the page directly but can influence search results. Be sure to use good content in the Meta Description field.

  1. Set the Page Title (displays in the browser tab).
  2. Set the Meta Description (factors into search results).
