Search Results

WebAlliance offers a very powerful search system. It analyzes over a dozen fields, as well as item meta-data to provide your users with a full featured and intuitive search result. Here's a breakdown of what's returned when a user runs a search on the website.

Search Result Page Layout

  1. A user can opt to filter their search result to only "In Stock" items, only items Previously Purchased by someone at their company or both. (Note: "Previously Purchased Only" is not available to RetailUsers or Anonymous users.)
  2. In a search result, the user can select a category to refine their search result. Once inside a category, they can further refine their search according to the filters set up in Attribute Manager or the PIM-Enterprise.
  3. In a search result, the user can filter their item list according to the BrandOrSupplier value of the items. (Note, this is an optional filter that can be disabled.)
  4. View the search result in row view (pictured) or tile view.
  5. If your site has enabled "Search Sort", the "Sort By:" box will appear. If that feature has not been enabled, then the box will be hidden.
  6. View 12, 24, or 42 items per page.
  7. Notice that the Search Result listing is a SKU view.

Admin Search Options and Tools

As a site Admin, you have some tools at your disposal to improve and customize the search experience for your website:

  • Search Preferences allows you to choose which fields are searched, and how important each one is to the search result rankings.
  • Search Keyword Intercept lets you set up intercepts to deliver certain keyword searches toward an alternate search, a content page, or a category page.
  • The Search Stats report shows a filterable list of searches conducted on your website.
  • If you would like other content on your website to be searchable, use the Searchable Pages Configurator located in the Search section of your Site Settings.

Search Result listings are ordered by "Best Match" by default, and that sort order could change depending on the customer's purchase history, the stock status of the item results, and several other factors. If you'd like to specify the order of a list of items, use Item Lists.

NOTE: Keep item lists to around 25 items. When the content page loads, it has to fetch pricing for the items on the list. More than 25 or so can cause the page load to time out, resulting in no pricing for any of the items on the page. And, of course, if no pricing is available, the user can't add the item to their cart.
