Category Page

Using Attribute Manager, the PIM-Enterprise, or your ERP's category function, you can organize your items into categories for display on WebAlliance.

Category Page Layout

NOTE: Using Category Headers, you can get access to many more design elements of a category page, including row view, which is a more compact view of items with less information visible on the Category page. Each row links to the SKU Detail page for that item.

Category Page Layout
  1. The content at the top of the category page can be enhanced and updated using the Category Headers tool found in the Admin section of your website. If no Category Header information is supplied, the page defaults to the name of the Category.
  2. You can search within the category using the "Search in Category" box in the upper-left of the category page.
  3. WebAlliance provides some system-generated filters to your users. "In Stock Only" refines the view to only items that are currently in stock. "Previously Purchased Only" refines the view to only items purchased by the logged-in user's Customer ID. (Note: "Previously Purchased Only" is not available to RetailUsers or Anonymous users.) The "Brand" filter shown is automatically built according to the BrandOrSupplier value, and is optional.
  4. Item filters appear on the left side of the category page. See below for more information about the "Show More" button seen above.
  5. If "Search Sort" is enabled for your website, you'll see the "Sort By:" box on categories, search results, and BrandOrSupplier pages.
  6. Notice that the item listings in a category use the SKU layout by default.

By default, Category listings are ordered by "Best Match", and that sort order could change depending on the customer's purchase history, the stock status of the item results, and several other factors. If you'd like to specify the order of a list of items, use Item Lists.

NOTE: Keep item lists to around 25 items. When the content page loads, it has to fetch pricing for the items on the list. More than 25 or so can cause the page load to time out, resulting in no pricing for any of the items on the page. And, of course, if no pricing is available, the user can't add the item to their cart.

Filters show up to 200 unique values initially. If a filter has more than 200 unique values, WebAlliance displays the "Show More" option. The user can click "Show More" to see up to 999 unique values.

Only 999 unique values will be displayed. If a filter has more values than that, they won't show up until the user has filtered the list.

A category page is considered a search result page, therefore it adheres to the same limits on the number of results.  No more than 10,000 items will be listed for a category.  Even 10,000 items is not what we would suggest in a category as this can be difficult for users to manage.  Typically you would want to start breaking into subcategories in this case.
