Restricting Shipping Options

 

In WebAlliance, you can dictate that a given item cannot be shipped via a UPS or FedEx method by adding 'NOUPS', 'NOFEDEX', etc. to the item record. You can also mark an items as freight shipping only with 'LTL'. All available options and what they restrict are listed at the bottom of this document.

Why would I do that?

If an item is not technically valid to ship via UPS or FedEx, such as a hazmat item, or an item too heavy to ship by a certain carrier, like a lathe machine, you can use 'NOUPS' or 'NOFEDEX' to completely remove certain shipping methods for a user to select.

The UPS or FedEx API checks the Item Weight of each item. If it exceeds the maximum allowed weight for a UPS or FedEx "box", then no shipping estimate will be returned. The method will still be selectable, but there won't be an estimate attached to the method. Because of that, the user could select UPS Ground (for example) without being shown or charged a shipping estimate. In that scenario, marking those items as 'NOUPS' would eliminate that possibility.

How do I mark my items?

To do this, all you need to do is add 'NOUPS', 'NOFEDEX', or any of the tags listed in the "Excluded Methods" section below to Custom Field 1-5 Field or the Class ID 2 Field. 

This is case-sensitive and must match exactly the syntax mentioned in this document.

When a user adds a 'NOUPS' or 'NOFEDEX' item to their order, any UPS or FedEx options are removed from the "Delivery Method" list accordingly. They'll see an informational box that indicates the item(s) that don't allow the specified shipping methods.

This only works for UPS and FedEx delivery methods. These tags don't apply to other carriers (i.e. USPS, Conway, etc).

Mark an item with LTL and only freight shipping options will be available for that item (no UPS or FedEx).
