Meta Information on Item Listings
These settings let you put together a string of field names (that represent existing item data) to use as meta data for your items that you haven't specifically assigned meta data to in the user defined fields in P21. These settings will also allow you to specify what string of field names to use as an image's alternate text.
For more details on what meta data is used for, see our article on Meta Information. Our manual article titled 'Can you explain template merge fields?' provides details on what fields are available to use in these settings, and how they work.
Meta Data Templates
Item Detail Meta Desc Template
The data from the field names you use here will be used as the meta description for the item detail page of items you haven't specifically assigned a meta description to in the Web_Meta_Desc user defined field in P21.
Item Detail Page Title Template
The data from the field names you use here will be used as the page title for the item detail page of items you haven't specifically assigned a page title to in the Web_Title user defined field in P21.
Item Detail Page Headline Template
The data from the field names you use here will be used as the page headline for the item detail page of items you haven't specifically assigned a page headline to in the Web_Headline user defined field in P21.
Item Image Alt Text Settings
Having meaningful alternate text for your item images is important to your search engine rankings. By default, the WebAlliance system will use the item's Part Description. If you want more control over the alternate text, the "Item Image Alt Source Fields" setting allows you to use existing item data to define what the alternate text will be for your item images.
Many of the fields that are available for configuring this setting are "user defined fields" which you can read more about in the User Defined Fields article.
Click the "Configure" button to begin using this feature.
Please note - the "Image Alt Text Source" configuration tool also determines the title tag for all images associated with a given item.
This setting allows you to create "templates" that the system will use to provide alternate text for the images. Each row in the image above is considered a template. To create a template, just drag fields from the Properties section into the rows on the left-hand side of the screen. You can add more than one field to a row if you choose.
Each row will be evaluated for each item, and if data is found in all the fields in that row, the data from that row will be used. Using the example above, the logic breakdown is as follows:
- If an item has only a Brand Name, or only a Web Description, the system will skip the row and evaluate the next row.
- If the item has neither a Brand Name or Web Description defined, the row will be skipped.
- If an item has a Brand Name and a Web Description, the Brand Name and Web Description will be used together for the image alternate text and no other rows will be evaluated.
- If the first row is skipped, the system will then evaluate the next row to see if the item has Keywords defined. If so, it will use Keywords. If not it will evaluate the next row and so on.
- If an item has no data in any of the fields that you have configured, it will revert to the WebAlliance default (Part Description).
Make sure to click "Save" after clicking "Finish" or your changes to the setting will not be saved.
