Tax Calculators

The Tax Calculator Configuration allows you to choose if your site attempts to calculate taxes and in which order it does so. The top of the list on the left-hand side will be the first calculation attempted, if no tax estimation is found for a method the next calculator will be used.

The options for that setting are:

  • ERP
  • Manual
  • Avalara
  • Taxjar

The ERP option may not work with all ERP systems. If you have any questions feel free to contact us at Aldrich Web Solutions Support.

ERP based calculations

If a customer is taxable and picks one of the Ship-To IDs assigned to their customer ID, sales tax is calculated based on the customer's Ship To ID which is associated with a particular Tax Group ID.  That Tax Group ID is assigned a tax rate in the ERP system, and that’s the rate the user will be charged.

If a Ship To is associated with multiple tax rates from the ERP system (5%, 2.5%, 1%, WebAlliance will sum up those tax rates, 8.5% total)

Note that if ERP is selected it will always be the first option attempted.

Manual

If a user enters a Shipping Address manually, they will be charged taxes based on the tax rates defined in the Tax Settings tool at /admin2/tax/rates. The rate will be determined by matching the state or ZIP code of their address to an entry in those Tax Settings entries.

These are commonly related to retail orders.  B2B users can enter addresses manually as well, provided your website allows it.

Manual Tax Rate calculations do not sum up tax rates. If the State tax rate is 8% and City is 8.5%, the Tax Table entry should be a zipcode - taxed at 8.5%.

Avalara Tax

Avalara is a third-party tax service that integrates directly with your ERP system.

TaxJar Tax

TaxJar is a third-party service that does not integrate with your ERP system. Tax jar will estimate taxes on the site.
