Editing a Page in the Content Builder
The Content Builder allows you to add elements to the page by dragging them from the sidebar on the right to the page itself.
This list comes with many pre-built snippets to add to your page, or you can create your own blocks with the built- in code editor.
In the next few steps, we'll learn how to edit existing content or remove it altogether.
"This page starts out as unpublished" is displayed because that's the value that was assigned to the "Page Headline" field when the page was created. You can update the page headline and other meta information by clicking the "Meta Info" button on the top menu bar.
The Content Builder top menu
The menu at the top of the Content Builder offers some options that will assist you in fine-tuning your page.
- "Exit Content Builder" closes the Content Builder and returns you to the page itself. If you do this before saving the page, your changes will be lost.
- "Discard Changes" only appears if you have unsaved changes on the page you are working on. This reverts the page back to the last saved version of the page.
- "PageBuilder" will take you to the PageBuilder tool in the WebAlliance Admin panel. Click the drop-down arrow on the PageBuilder menu to choose to go the Site Navigation tool or to unpublish a published page.
- "Meta Info" allows you to change your page's meta information, and to roll back to previously saved versions of the page. See the Meta Information manual entry for details.
- "Code Editor" transitions to editing the page's HTML code directly. See the Code Editor manual entry for details.
- The "Preview" button only appears if the page is unpublished. This allows you to view what the page would look like on the website in its current state without publishing it.
- "Delete Page" only appears if the page is not published. It will permanently delete the page.
- "Save" gives you several options to save the page you're working on. "Publish to Site" saves the current page, creates a save point in the "Previous Versions" list in the Meta Info menu, and publishes the page. "Publish On..." lets you set a date and time for the changes you've made to be published on. See the Publish On article to find out how it works. "Save and Continue Editing" saves the current page and leaves it in an unpublished state.
"Meta Info"

This is the information that was entered in the creation of the page. Any of it can be edited from either the PageBuilder screen or from the Content Builder itself.
In the Content Builder, you can roll the page back to previously published versions. Just click the "Previous Version" drop-down, and select any previously published version of your page.
You also have the ability to exclude the page from your site's search results (if you have content searching enabled) and from your site's XML Sitemap.
Edit a snippet
A snippet refers to any pre-made module that you can drag-and-drop onto your content page.
Each new page is pre-filled with some sample snippets, complete with sample images and text. You can definitely remove and replace this sample data. Click inside any of the sample snippets, and take a look at the 5 boxes on the left side. These allow you to modify the properties of the snippet itself:
- The green button allows you to move the snippet up or down the page.
- The blue <> button allows you to edit the HTML code for the specific snippet. "Code Editor" (available in the top menu) allows you to edit the code throughout the entire page.
- The black button makes an exact copy of the snippet and places it directly below the current one.
- The gray button provides you with a tool to edit the background color of the selected snippet.
- The red "x" button removes the snippet from the page.
When clicking on a snippet that contains text, you'll generate a text editor bar on the left-hand side of the page. Hover your cursor over each entry for details. From this editor, you can format your text, choose from dozens of fonts, change the spacing, etc.
Dealing with images inside a snippet
Images can have unique properties, depending on the snippet you've chosen. See our article "Dealing with Images in the Content Builder" for more information.
