Importing Image and Document Assocations

If you include image and document associations when importing data, you will need to make sure PIM Enterprise knows where to find the images or documents you are referencing.  The following will demonstrate the proper methods of doing so in PIM.

Supported file types for item images are .jpg, .png, .webp, and .gif.

Setting the Path During Import

Using this method, you can simply put the images and documents in a centralized location and then during import, enter the path to that location.  When using this method, you will only need to enter the name of the document or image in the appropriate column in your import file.  There's no need to include the path.

This is the suggested method for importing document and image associations.  By maintaining a shared folder on your network with the images and documents, you will simplify the data in your import file as well as maintain better control of the images and documents themselves.

Setting the Path Manually

If you don't have your images and documents in a central location, you can simply include the full path to the file in the import document.  For example, to attach the image "TapeMeasure.jpg" to item "ABC123", you should use:

C:\Pictures\Saved Pictures\TapeMeasure.jpg

Be sure not to use only the file name, like:

TapeMeasure.jpg

Replacing Existing Images

By default, when importing images or documents, the system will simply add any new files referenced in your import document to the existing ones for that item in the PIM.  However, if you select the "Replace Existing" option on import, the system will remove the existing image and document links for the items included on the import file, and replace them with the images and document links in your import file.  This is a useful feature if you have updated item images, but they have the same name as existing images on the documents.  The old image will be removed and replaced with the new image of the same name.

If you include multiple image or documents, include the full paths separated by a semicolon. So, to attach two images to that item, you should use:

C:\Pictures\Saved Pictures\TapeMeasure.jpg;C:\Pictures\Saved Pictures\OtherImage.jpg
