Gateway Server Connections to WebAlliance
The Gateway Server connection is extremely important to the functionality of your website. If it is unavailable, many aspects of your WebAlliance website will not work.
The WebAlliance system has two possible connection paths to your Gateway server: the Spokes PacketRiot service, and the IPSec VPN.
1) Primary Connection - Spokes PacketRiot
- Provides a direct tunnel to a server hosted by Aldrich Web Solutions that is secure/stable.
- Spokes runs on the Gateway Server as a service named "PacketRiot".
- This service is fully maintained by Aldrich Web Solutions.
- For Spokes documentation, click Here.
2) Secondary Connection - IPSec VPN
- Aldrich Web Solutions supports an IPSec VPN tunnel between the Aldrich Web Solutions hosting facility and your Gateway Server.
- It can connect to a single WAN IP address, and points directly, and only to the Gateway Server.
- This connection is not load balancing, and will not automatically switch to a secondary WAN address.
After the VPN is in place, changes to the IPSec VPN connection are considered billable.
What if the Gateway Server Can't Connect?
If neither path is available, WebAlliance functions such as item pricing and My Account information will be unavailable. If the Gateway Server is fully unavailable, orders from the website will not import into your ERP system.
Tip: You can add a Site Call to Action, using the Site Pop Up Message tool under "Content" in the website's Admin panel, to inform users of potential network issues.
