How do I edit attribute values for items?

For the best results, enter a value for every attribute placed on each item.  Use "Edit Items & Item Properties" to enter the values.

Editing within Attribute Manager

You can edit the value for any field to the right of "Description".  "Item Code" and "Description" are imported directly from your ERP system, but the other fields are created under the "Attributes" tab.  You can choose to make a quick edit within Attribute Manager, but for more involved editing, we recommend using the "Export to Excel" option.  Make your changes on a spreadsheet, then import that spreadsheet back into Attribute Manager.  Be sure to click "Save" when you're finished editing items.

Notes on Attribute Values

- Make your attribute values alphanumeric, and avoid special characters. Characters like  + & and * will not work correctly on your website.

- Fractional sizes automatically sort on your website. For example, the site will display:

1/4
1/2
3/4
1
1-1/4
1-1/2

- Mixed numbers (like 1-1/4") must be formatted in the way shown above in order to maintain fractional sort capabilities. 1-1/2 is correct. 1 1/2 is incorrect.

- Most of the time, attribute values that are numbers (1,2,3,4,5) will be sorted numerically while attribute values that are not numbers will be sorted alphabetically.  However, there are some non-numeric labels for attribute values that are ignored, making the values sort numerically.  See our "How will my attribute values sort?" article for the list of ignored labels.

- Fractional values behave differently, so if your attribute is a "Size" attribute that includes fractional sizes, be sure to include the unit in the attribute name and make the values only alphanumeric.

So we could say:

Size (Inches)

1/2
3/4
1
1-1/2

- Also, you can get ranges and attribute values with multiple entries to sort numerically (provided the values are numbers) by formatting them in one of these 2 ways:

# - #
# x #

Maximum Number of Attribute Values

On your website, filters show up to 200 unique values initially. If a filter has more than 200 unique values, WebAlliance displays the "Show More" option. The user can click "Show More" to see up to 999 unique values.

Only 999 unique values will be displayed. If a filter has more values than that, they won't show up until the user has filtered the list.
