Receiving Errors when Importing Into Attribute Manager
An error message will be displayed when importing data into Attribute Manager when there is something in the import data that Attribute Manager can't process. The following are some of the more common errors that you might run in to, and some tips to help you correct the import. Most problems are related to the structure or format of the data in the import file.
Index Value was Outside of the Array
You will usually get this error right after you select the name of the file you are wanting to import, or when you select "Get Fields".
- One possible cause for this error would be unusual formatting in your import file. If you have applied any conditional formatting, etc. to the cells in the spreadsheet, the Attribute Manager might have difficulty reading the file.
- A second possibility would be that there is something unusual about the data itself. Using formulas in the cells to generate data, for instance, could cause a problem with an import.
The Attribute Manager only needs the data from the import file. If you're having trouble tracking down where the issue is in your import file, you might find the simplest solution is to:
- Export a fresh Excel template for the category in question using the "Create Excel Template" function from the Export Data tab.
- Copy the data from your original import file.
- Right-click in your new Excel template and paste in the data as "Values" to prevent any cell or data formatting from getting carried over.
- Import your new file in Attribute Manager.
Invalid Items when Importing
This error could be generated for a variety of reasons, but ultimately it means there are invalid Item IDs in your import file. When Attribute Manager imports items into a category it checks them against the web-enabled items for your site. If it doesn't find one or more of the items from your import file, you will see this error. The error message will provide you a list of the incorrect Item IDs.
Correct the invalid Item IDs in your import file and attempt to import again.
If the Item IDs in the error message appear to be valid items, make sure those items are web-enabled. The Attribute Manager will only import items you have marked as web-enabled.
If the Item IDs in the message are web-enabled items in your ERP, make sure to "Sync Parts with ERP" from the Add or Import Items tab. Syncing will make sure that items that have been enabled for the web since the last time you synced with your ERP are available to Attribute Manager. It's good practice to sync every time you use Attribute Manager.
If you see this error message, but there are no Item IDs listed, it might mean there is a blank row in your import file. This can be difficult to notice, particularly if the blank row is the last row in the file. Removing the blank row should allow the import to run without an error.
Note: Item IDs in your import file cannot be Supplier Part Numbers or Alternate Part Numbers. They must be valid, web-enabled Item IDs.
